30 Days Social Media Cleanse
After meeting a man whom I was completely enamored by and being slightly rejected I decided to go on a 30 day social media cleanse. I say slightly rejected because although I knew I truly was falling head over heels for him, I knew that I needed and deserved more from him. All I truly wanted was his time, which he was unable to provide. Anywho, I went on a social media cleanse because social media has plagued me to believe that it is a necessity in my life, when in fact it is NOT. We sometimes look at our social media pages and are self conscious when we do not receive the number of likes predicted. We must understand that we not need social media to survive, but social media needs us to survive.
Social media makes it easier for us to look on each others pages and say obnoxious things. Galatians 5:15 warns, “But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!“ we are consumed and devoured by social media on a daily bases that we no longer stop and smell the roses. How are we devoured you ask? We spend so much time on social media. The average American between the ages 18-64 who use social networks say they spend an average of 3.2 hours per day doing so, according tonew research released by Ipsos Open Thinking Exchange (OTX). This means that for at least 3.2 hours of your day you are commenting on someone's post, liking someone's picture, or even posting a çelfie on snap!
Within my 30 day social media cleanse I wanted to learn more about myself and gain a closer/stronger relationship to God. To be honest my cleanse did just exactly that. I was able to spend time talking to the lord, every second of the day. Whether I just thanked him for the simple things such as allowing me to adopt my cat Greysi, to thanking him for waking me up. I was truly thanking the lord and appreciating him for all that he has done. This is something which I could say was new to me, but after doing it for 30 days it became a part of me. I suddenly adopted a Stop, Drop, Pray mentality which has allowed me to be a better me. Allow yourself the opportunity to clear your soul from the beast of social media and be consumed with the lord!
