While many of you are at home with your loved ones, watching TV or doing whatever you do best. I am home clipping magazines to get ready to create my Vision Board!
What is a vision board you ask? A vision board is a tool which helps the creator to clarify and maintain focus of their goals, wants, and dreams. Creating and using vision boards serves several purposes, some of which include helping you to:
Identify your vision and give it clarity.
Reinforce your daily affirmations.
Keep your attention on your intentions.
What you’ll need:
Any kind of board, if you’re new maybe start with a poster board from the hardware store, they run about a dollar.
Magazines that you can cut images and quotes
Scissors, tape, pins, and/or a glue-stick to put your board together.
If you want, fun markers, glitter, stickers, or anything else you can think of to deck out your board. I don’t use that stuff, but if embellishments make you feel great, then go for it.
Most importantly, the stuff you want to look at every day. Photos, quotes, sayings, images of places you want to go, reminders of events, places, or people, postcards from friends and just about anything that will inspire you.
Bring your vision to life
How to do it:
Although many think that creating a vision board is easy, it is not. You see having to fit your visions and goals on a 22 x 28 poster board can be very difficult. So to make this process a little easier I reflect on my past year and things in which I feel that I should work on for the current year.
I start off by dividing my board into 4 quadrants. These quadrants are usually things in my life in which I want to enhance. For my 2016 vision board my quadrants had specific themes. Going clockwise the themes where Fitness, Dating with purpose, Traveling and Finances.
In 2015, I had a couple of health scares. My doctor informed me that I was showing signs of diabetes and that I might have a thyroid issue. At twenty-six I was experiencing some health concerns. My doctor insured me that with a better eating regiment and exercise my health will change.
Dating with purpose:
After a very bad relationship (which you can read about here on shecommands.com) I realized that I shouldn't give up on love. So in this quadrant I wrote everything I would love in a partner. I also placed some bible quotes as a reminder that love does exist!
I LOVE to travel, but because I have been in school for what feels like eternity, I haven't had the opportunity to go anywhere. 2016 for me was going to be the year
Finances/job: I realized that in my job I am not as assertive as I need to be. In this quadrant I placed motivational quotes to ensure that I did not fear for my future.
Everyone wants to be financially stable and able to provide for their own wants and needs. In this quadrant I placed everything in which is hindering my success, but later I realized that my success is found in the lord.
MY 2016 Vision Board Outcome:
Although I had a very difficult 2016, I can say that waking up to my vision board every day allowed me to consistently see the areas in my life where I wanted to grow in.
Fitness: In 2016, I started to work out and even start to eat healthy. I lost a little over 10 pounds, but because of other health scares and crazy workload I had to limit my working out. I realized that fitness is a goal which will always be a part of my vision. Although it will not be a part of my vision board for 2017, it is still something that I am going to work on because I have seen how far I have come in a year. I am striving to be a healthier me and am grateful for the lifestyle change.
Dating with purpose: I have realized that dating in this era is not easy. Most men no longer court, but there are a couple of them whose intentions are still good! This year, I had the pleasure of meeting one particular man who has sparked my interest. Although I understand that I have a lot to work on, I also have faith that whatever is meant for me will not pass me. I believe that this love story is still being written and I can not wait to see how it unfolds! I am just glad that I did not allow my past relationship to ruin my thought of finding the one.
Traveling: Summer 2016 was filled with a trip to St. Maarten, Honduras and a road trip I would never forget. For the first time in ages my brother, dad and I went on a road trip to New Orleans, Texas, Atlanta from New York. Although this might seem like nothing to you,to me it meant the world because for the first time in years my father and I were able to bond. My whole life my father and I bumped heads because our views of life are different. This trip solidified that I am daddy's little girl and it felt great to bond over an amazing road trip.
Finances/Job: First and foremost I want to thank God for guiding me to the career that I am in. Never in a million years would I have ever chosen this profession for myself. That being said although I am still a counselor, this year I lost my placement. Which meant that I had to scramble to look for another school. You see God is so clutch that I didn't worry about finding a new school because I knew that this career was chosen by him and that he would provide, which he did. After my wonderful summer he sent me a job and I was hired on the spot. Our lord is awesome and will always prevail over any evil coming your way!
In regards to vision boards, I would like to say that it is not enough to just create the board. You need to change your routine and surround yourself with your vision. I went to the lengths of putting the board somewhere in my bedroom where I would see it daily and even taking a picture of it and setting it as my screen saver to ensure that I constantly saw it. I utilized my vision board as a daily affirmation. My vision board for 2016 showed me that my dreams are attainable if I work hard towards them. Greatness is brewing mark my words!
